III-1.Methodology to measure zircom

Zircon is contained in igneous rocks, metamorphic rock and sedimentary rock, as a sub-component mineral or as one of the main heavy minerals.(Fig.9)

It is difficult to classify geological formation when source rock structure in core & cuttings is lost due to strong alteration.
Zircon is not affected by acid or alkaline hot water, thus it remains a stable mineral even in geothermal environments.
Also, it is known that the form of crystal and its content do change from one geological formation to other.
Therefore, through the analysis of the amount and form of zircon crystals it possible to estimate the source rock and to do classifications of strong altered core & cuttings.

In this method the program developed by Hayashi(1990) is used to analyze the form of zircon crystals.
