Narrative Description of Project:
The project aims to install a 100MW geothermal power plant (4 × 25MW or 2 × 50MW) and
230kV transmission line of 170km length at the highland of 4900m in Potosi province
(southern part) of Bolivia. Following the feasibility study that was funded by JETRO and
undertook by WEST JEC in 2007-2008 after the request by Bolivian government for
assistance of Yen loan for this project, JICA and the Bolivian authorities decided to conduct
this additional study so that the Japanese government can evaluate the possibility of
financing this project through Yen loan. The objectives of this study are summarized in the
following three components.
@- Preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) which is required by the Bolivian law and the guidelines of JICA.
@- Review of Project Implementation Plan described in the JETRO F/S
@- Identifying actions to be taken by the Bolivian authorities before the start of the Project.
