Power System - United Republic of Tanzania

The Project for Formulation of Power System Master Plan in Dar es Salaam and Coast region and Review of Power System Master Plan

In 2007, the Tanzanian government formulated the Power System Master Plan (PSMP), which has been followed by the expansion of power generation facilities and the development of backbone transmission lines (the 2012 version has been updated). However, the above master plan has not been updated since then and has not been able to fully reflect the recent increase in demand associated with rapid economic growth. Based on this background, TANESCO and MEM (Ministry of Energy and Mineral) requested Japan to support the updating of the National Power System Master Plan (2012) and the formulation of the Dar es Salaam Power System Master Plan, and to improve the master plan formulation capacity of TANESCO and MEM staff through updating and formulation of the Master Plan. Based on the results of the collection and analysis of basic information, West JEC developed a power development plan that includes priorities for the development of future power facilities, the optimal configuration of power sources including IPPs.
